Plastic Surgery Innovative Technology

Plastic Surgery Innovative Technology

Dr. Galiano is at the figurative “cutting edge” of Plastic Surgery. He is innovative and constantly explores new ways to yield the best possible results for his patients, including the use of devices as well as his own unique surgical methods. Several examples of his novel techniques for cosmetic surgery are as follows:

Current Technology Employed by Dr. Galiano for Cosmetic Surgery

3D Photos

In both his clinical practice and research studies, Dr. Galiano uses the Canfield VECTRA 3D imaging system. The camera captures a detailed, 3D image of the patient’s face and body. Dr. Galiano is able to utilize the software to produce accurate measures of breast volume and shape and produces procedure specific post-op simulations. This allows the patient to compare the pre-op appearance to a post-op simulation.

Peak Plasmablade

Dr. Galiano uses the Peak Plasmablade cutting device for many procedures to improve outcomes and recovery. The Peak Plasmablade is a high tech surgical tool that has cutting ability and many advantages over the traditional scalpel such as bleeding control.

Barbed Sutures for Breast Reductions and Breast Lifts

Dr. Galiano has pioneered a novel technique in his breast reductions with breast lift procedures to give his patients a better result. He has found that by using barbed sutures instead of traditional smooth sutures he is able to produce better long-term breast mound shapes as well as eliminate excess skin at the end of incisions, known as “dog-ears”.

Fat Grafting in Breast Augmentations

Injecting fat in different parts of the body has been shown to produce younger-looking effects. Dr. Galiano uses fat grafting in his breast augmentations to give his patients a long-lasting fuller and softer result.

Cosmetic Clinical Trials Currently Enrolling Patients at Northwestern:

MIST Ultrasound Therapy for Subjects after Cosmetic Surgery Procedures

The clinical trial explores the effects of a non-contact low frequency ultrasound device, called MIST, on traditional post-surgical side effects: pain, swelling, bruising, and scarring. Patients undergoing a facelift, blepharoplasty, breast augmentation and reduction, mastopexy, or abdominoplasty may qualify for the study.

Open-Label Study to Provide Revision of Scars Resulting from Surgery in Prior Studies of EXC 001

EXC 001 is an investigational injectable drug which is currently being tested for its effect on scar reduction. The purpose of this study is to provide subjects who participated in prior studies of EXC 001 the opportunity to have their hypertrophic scars surgically revised and treated with EXC 001.
