Body Lift Chicago

What is a Body Lift?

Body Lift Chicago, IL

As a woman ages, or loses a significant amount of weight, her skin becomes less elastic and fat and skin can start to droop. A body lift in Chicago is an excellent way for Dr. Galiano to help you restore a tight and toned body shape. This generally includes the waist, hips, thighs, abdomen, and buttocks. A body lift removes excess fat and skin, while at the same time tightening the underlying tissue such as the muscle which supports your skin.

Body Lift Benefits

The main goal of a body lift is to tighten your midsection trunk and back, lateral thighs and flanks and buttocks by removing unwanted and drooping excess fat and skin. This drooping can occur with aging or after significant weight loss. After this procedure you should expect more toned and slimmer-looking hips, waist, buttocks, abdomen, or thighs, depending on your area of interest. Dr. Galiano will perform this procedure through techniques and insights gleaned from his scar research, including ways to produce an optimal scar and excellent long-term results. You may also expect renewed self-esteem and confidence as a result of your new figure.

Are You A Candidate For A Body Lift?

In general, if you are over 18 years of age, are in good health, and have realistic expectations, you are likely an excellent candidate for a body lift. If you have excess skin and fat around your midsection and lower back and buttocks that bothers you, a body lift can be beneficial in restoring your body shape and tone. For best long-term results, your weight should stable and you should be committed to a healthy lifestyle including fitness and healthy eating. Patients who have benefited from significant weight loss (massive weight loss) should have a stable weight for one year prior to this procedure, and ensure they are not malnourished.

How Is A Body Lift Performed?

Dr. Galiano’s approach will vary depending on whether you seek treatment focusing more on various parts of your body, such as the hips versus buttocks. The procedure is done in the operating room under general anesthesia or sedation with local anesthesia. It usually lasts about 4 hours, and patients go home either the same day or after an overnight stay in the hospital, depending on your preference and if any other procedures were done. A body lift can also be performed along with liposuction.

Body Lift Aftercare & Recovery

Body lifts are generally performed as an outpatient procedure, so you should expect to go home the same day. Dr. Galiano will plan your procedure to minimize your recovery time as much as possible. A compression garment will be placed over the treated area to control swelling, and temporary drains may be placed to relieve fluid as you heal. Most patients benefit from being away from work for one or two weeks. Pain is very patient-specific, but most patients will not have significant pain when they have the procedure performed by Dr. Galiano. There will be swelling and a variable amount of bruising initially. You may do mild exercises as soon as you feel up to it.

Body Lift FAQs

Is body lift necessary?

The decision to restore your body shape with a body lift procedure is a personal choice. However, excess or loose skin can be bothersome and impact confidence. Dr. Galiano wants you to make an informed decision if you are considering body lift. That is why Dr. Galiano encourages patients to schedule a consultation to discuss their goals as well as their concerns.

What questions should I ask when deciding if body lift is right for me?

Not everyone is a candidate for body lift. While Dr. Galiano provides the ultimate guidance on who can benefit from body lift, there are questions that you can ask yourself when considering body lift, including the following:

  • Am I at a stable weight? The best candidates are those who maintain a stable body weight. If you have undergone significant weight loss, then it is recommended that you maintain your current weight for at least a year before pursuing a body lift procedure.
  • Do I plan to become pregnant in the future? Pregnancy can alter the shape of your body and can impact your body lift results. You should talk to your doctor if you plan to become pregnant.
  • Am I maintaining a healthy lifestyle? Body lift is best performed on individuals who maintain a healthy lifestyle. This means that you maintain your ideal weight, are physically active and do not smoke.
  • Do I have realistic expectations? Ask yourself about the results you are expecting and then communicate with your doctor to determine if those expectations are realistic.

What areas of the body can benefit from a body lift procedure?

The body lift procedure can be tailored to the individual needs of the patient. Areas of the body that can most benefit from body lift include the hips, waist, buttocks, abdomen and thighs.

Will insurance pay for my body lift?

Whether or not your insurance pays for your body lift will depend on your insurance coverage as well as the reason for the procedure. Purely cosmetic body lifts are generally not covered by insurance. However, some insurance plans may cover some of the costs associated with a body lift procedure if there is a medical need and the patient meets certain criteria. This includes patients who have lost significant weight (often through bariatric surgery) and have problems related to leftover excess skin. If you have questions about whether or not insurance will pay for some or all of your body lift, you should speak to your insurance provider.

How long is the recovery from body lift?

Recovery from body lift will depend on your overall health as well as the areas that underwent the procedure. Most patients are able to return to work after two weeks. It may take six to eight weeks before you can resume normal exercise and normal activity. Dr. Galiano can answer your recovery questions during your consultation.

How long will my body lift results last?

Body lift results can last a long time if you maintain a consistent body weight. You will notice natural changes as your body ages.
