Tummy Tuck in Chicago

Chicago Abdominoplasty PatientTummy tucks, known in the medical world as abdominoplasties, are a common cosmetic procedure to flatten and tone the abdominal area. Due to aging or significant weight loss, you may have excess fat and inelastic skin. A tummy tuck removes this excess drooping skin to leave you with a tighter, toned, tummy.

What should I expect from a tummy tuck?

  • The main goal of a tummy tuck is to tighten and tone your tummy by removing unwanted and drooping excess fat and skin, and strengthening the muscles below. Drooping can occur with aging or after significant weight loss. After this procedure you should expect more toned and slimmer-looking abdominal area. Dr. Galiano will perform this procedure to yield minimal scarring, and will seek excellent long-term results. You may also expect renewed self-esteem and confidence as a result of your new figure.

Am I a candidate for a tummy tuck?

  • In general, if you are over 18 years of age, are in good health, and have realistic expectations, you are likely an excellent candidate for a tummy tuck. Dr. Galiano performs these procedures for both men and women. If you have lost or gained weight due to genetics or aging, or have been recently pregnant and seek to restore your tummy appearance to what it was prior to pregnancy, a tummy tuck could be right for you. For best long-term results, your weight should stable and you should be committed to a healthy lifestyle including fitness and healthy eating.

How does Dr. Galiano perform a tummy tuck?

  • Dr. Galiano has unique expertise in abdominal surgery and uses innovative techniques to achieve an ideal result. Generally, he performs a tummy tuck as an outpatient procedure with an occasional overnight stay. His techniques improve blood supply and therefore reduce complications and improve sensation in long-term outcomes. Due to his extensive research in scarring, he is able to achieve the best possible result with regard to a lasting scar.

Often Dr. Galiano will perform liposuction in combination with your tummy tuck to improve results and minimize complications from multiple procedures. This is a variant call lipo-abdominoplasty, or liposuction abdominoplasty. This procedure is excellent for women who are moderately overweight, and by combining liposuction of the abdomen with skin removal, can produce beautiful dramatic results. Dr. Galiano’s aesthetic results produce a pleasing body contour and minimal scarring.

What can I expect during the recovery period?

  • Tummy tucks are generally performed as an outpatient procedure, so you should expect to go home the same day. Dr. Galiano will plan your procedure to minimize your recovery time as much as possible. A compression garment will be placed around your midsection to control swelling, and temporary drains may be placed to relieve fluid as you heal. Most patients benefit from being away from work for a few days, but you should be able to walk around and do mild activities within a day or two of your procedure. Pain is very patient-specific, but most patients will not have significant pain when they have the procedure performed by Dr. Galiano. There will be swelling, a variable amount of initial bruising. You may do mild exercises as soon as you feel up to it.
